Toddler saves baby brother following dresser accident

If you are on social media or watch the nightly news, you may be familiar with the viral video involving two children and a dresser. The incident occurred at a family's Utah home and was recorded on a nanny-cam at about 8am on December 29.

The video shows a pair of two year old brothers playing with an empty dresser in the corner of a bedroom. The children innocently pull open a few of the drawers and together try to climb into them, when the entire dresser topples over, throwing one child the floor away from the dresser, but pinning the other child underneath.

The child recognizes that his brother is in danger, and tries to address the situation by first attempting to lift the 115 pound dresser off his brother, to no avail. He then climbs over the dresser to see what can be done from the back. Then he walks around to the front of the dresser and miraculously pushes it off the pinned child. The child is being hailed as a hero, despite the fact that he is even too young to talk about the ordeal.

Neither child was injured in the accident, although not all children are as lucky. Each year, defective products are the cause of death or serious injury to consumers. Last year, Ikea recognized a very similar situation and recalled over 29 million dressers and chests following the death of four children over the previous few years. "It is clear that there are still unsecured products in customers' homes, and we believe that taking further action is the right thing to do," Ikea said when addressing the issue of the dangerous dressers.
